AMAZON’S TAXPAYER HANDOUT SCHEME IS FALLING APART, AND THAT’S GOOD FOR COMPETITION

HQ2 Backlash and Legal Battle Over JEDI Show Cracks in Amazon’s Anticompetitive Strategy

Robert B. Engel, chief spokesperson for the Free & Fair Markets Initiative (FFMI), released the following statement in response to the latest setbacks to Amazon’s pursuit of taxpayer dollars, including the opposition to massive subsidies for HQ2 and an investigation over possible conflicts of interests in the JEDI procurement process.

“The deafening backlash to Amazon’s HQ2 deal in New York and recent hurdles to the company’s allegedly rigged JEDI bid show that the company’s strategy of relying on an endless stream of taxpayer dollars is collapsing.

It’s a win for the economy because Amazon will have fewer taxpayer dollars to crowd out their competition in industry after industry.”
