FFMI APPLAUDS FTC PROBE INTO AMAZON ANTI-COMPETITIVE BUSINESS PRACTICES

Investigators Are Taking Important First Steps Towards Leveling the Playing Field

In response to a new report from Bloomberg that a team of Federal Trade Commission (FTC) investigators has begun probing the extent of Amazon’s power over its third-party sellers and suppliers, the Free & Fair Markets Initiative (FFMI) released the following statement:

“It is welcome news to see that regulators are finally getting serious about taking on the unfair advantage Amazon has staked out on its platform,” said Robert B. Engel, chief spokesperson for FFMI. “While Amazon has managed to stay out of the crosshairs of investigators, the simple fact of the matter is that the company knows it will be caught red-handed once it finds itself under the spotlight.”

“The drumbeat of sellers who are speaking out against Amazon for its efforts to stamp out competition are growing louder and louder each day, and it is time for regulators to hold this company accountable.”
