FFMI RELEASES NEW VIDEO ON NEED FOR MARKET DIVERSIFICATION AMID
“FFMI Explains” Video Features Former Amazon Seller and E-Commerce Expert Discussing How Sellers Are Unable To Diversify Sales In The Face Of Amazon
The Free & Fair Markets Initiative (FFMI) today launched a new episode of its video series “FFMI Explains,” which provides expert commentary on how Amazon is responding to the coronavirus pandemic and the implications that its new policies are having for sellers on the platform.
The latest episode — titled “Amazon’s Winner-Takes-All Approach” — features Jason Boyce, founder and CEO of Avenue7Media and former Top 200 Amazon Seller discussing how the e-commerce giant has made it nearly impossible for third-party sellers to diversify where their products are sold, limiting both competition and choice for both sellers and buyer
“There isn’t one big Amazon seller that wouldn’t kill to have more diversification of their sales. They’d love to invest in another online marketplace or invest it in driving direct-to-consumer traffic to their website and getting more sales in that way,” said Boyce. “But it’s really, really challenging. sellers need a second and a third place desperately. The diversification is something that every seller wants to do. Unfortunately, there are very few of them in a position to be able to do it.”
Boyce concludes by pleading with Amazon executives saying: “Do more to help these small businesses that are so critical to the success of our economy and so critical to families putting food on the table. Do better.”
Previous episodes of “FFMI Explains” featured EconOne managing director and Georgetown University adjunct professor Hal Singer discussing antitrust concerns surrounding Amazon’s private label practices, as well as Boyce discussing the rise of counterfeit sellers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Upcoming episodes of “FFMI Explains” will include Singer, Boyce and other industry experts discussing emerging issues on Amazon’s marketplace amidst the coronavirus crisis.
