AMAZON IS A “CO-CONSPIRATOR” IN FACEBOOK’S DATA PRIVACY SCANDAL
Amazon Being Implicated In Facebook’s Dirty Dealing Is A Bombshell That Could Spell Swift Backlash
Robert B. Engel, chief spokesperson for the Free & Fair Markets Initiative (FFMI), released the following statement upon the release of the New York Times report that Facebook gave Amazon special access to consumers’ personal data.
“Amazon has been hiding in plain sight ever since Facebook’s data harvesting scandal kicked off a national conversation about data privacy. But now it is clear as day that Amazon was a co-conspirator, reaching a secret pact with the social media giant to exploit personal data without user consent.
There’s no doubt that Amazon’s hush-hush data-sharing scheme with Facebook will have customers thinking long and hard about whether they can ever trust Amazon going forward. For a company that claims to be customer-centric to its core, this is nothing short of a bombshell that could set off a major backlash.”
