AMAZON’S ANTICOMPETITIVE PRICE POLICY IS THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG

Antitrust Enforcers Should Look Closely at Other Blatant Violations

Robert B. Engel, chief spokesperson for the Free & Fair Markets Initiative (FFMI), released the following statement amid news that Amazon will no longer bar third-party sellers from offering lower prices on competing websites.

“Amazon has had its boot on the necks of third-party sellers for years, and it’s getting worse, not better. Make no mistake: the company’s absurd policy requiring companies to offer their lowest prices only on Amazon fell apart because it was exposed as an anticompetitive practice, not because Amazon wanted to do right by businesses.

Lawmakers and regulators can no longer wait on details to trickle out about Amazon’s anticompetitive behavior. They must launch a full-scale review of Amazon’s practices, and they should have a field day.”
