FFMI Statement On Amazon Data Breach

In response to reports that Amazon left crucial consumer data unprotected, Robert B. Engel, chief spokesperson for the Free & Fair Markets Initiative issued the following statement:

“Amazon is bidding on a major Pentagon cloud contact to store our country’s most sensitive secrets, yet it can’t even protect the email addresses of its own customers. And in true Amazon form, the company is providing almost no details about what happened here.

The fact is that data privacy is an issue that extends far beyond social media and it is time lawmakers take action to protect consumers. A great next step is taking a very close look at Amazon.”
