FTC TAKES IMPORTANT FIRST STEP IN CURBING FAKE AMAZON REVIEWS

Now the FTC Must Demand That Amazon Clean Up Its Platform

Robert B. Engel, chief spokesperson for the Free & Fair Markets Initiative (FFMI), released the following statement amid news that the FTC brought a case challenging false product reviews on Amazon.

“Fake reviews have flooded Amazon’s platform for years, and the company continues to turn a blind eye. Amazon has been unwilling or unable to put in place meaningful safeguards for consumers, and its failure to do so calls into question why any shopper can trust the company.

It’s welcome news that the FTC has taken this important first step, but more must be done to ensure consumers are protected. Amazon must be held accountable for what happens on Amazon.com”
